Thomas R. Henry

Thomas R. Henry, 52 of Viroqua, passed away Sunday May 21, 2006 as a result of a farm accident. He was born January 26th, 1954 in Viroqua, WI, to David and Evelyn (Mattes) Henry. Tom graduated from Viroqua Area Schools in 1972. He married Lori Sands in Viroqua on August 10th, 1974 at St. Mary's Catholic Parrish. Tom was preceded in death by his father, David Henry; brother John Henry; sister Cathie Henry; grandfather Fred Henry; and his nephews, Cory Henry and Jesse Sands. Tom worked at NCR during and after High School. He then worked at the Vernon Co-op until which time he began working for the City of Viroqua and was promoted to the Director of the Public Works. Tom was a loyal and dedicated employee of the city for the past thirty years. Tom's two daughters and their accomplishments were his greatest pride and joy. Two of these accomplishments are his grandsons, Joey and Jarron Biebl. 'Papa'(as he was known to Joey and Jarron) enjoyed his boys more than life itself. Tom spent as much time with these boys as possible. Many weekends were spent playing catch and going to 'the land'. The cabin was his special place. Tom enjoyed his friends and loved hosting Friday night cook-outs at the land. These cookouts were much loved by friends and family alike. Tom's nephews enjoyed learning the skills needed to become great hunters by spending weekends with Uncle Tom at the land. Tom loved to spend time with his wife Lori at the land enjoying cookouts, campfires, and looking at the stars. He was a baptized and confirmed member of St. Mary's Parrish in Viroqua, WI. Tom was a member of the VFW, Viroqua Wrestling Club, Wild Turkey Federation and the National Rifle Association. Tom is survived by his wife Lori, daughters Tara (Russ) Biebl of Arpin, WI and their sons, Joey & Jarron; Dr. Chasity A. Henry of Grand Rapids, MI; his mother, Evelyn Henry of Viroqua WI; mother & father-in-law, Roger & Camilla Sands of Viroqua; his brothers: David (Cindy) Henry of Goodyear, AZ; Frank Henry of Rockford, IL; Donald (Mary) Henry and Michael (Jeannie)Henry, both of Viroqua; his sisters: Ethel Bean of Highlands Ranch, Co.; Peggy (Larry) Leahy of Thomasville, NC; and Ella (Michael) Raasch of Coon Valley, WI; his brother-in-law: Dan (Iso) Sands of Coarsegold, CA; two sisters-in-law: Trudy (David) Treptow, of Viroqua and Jodi (Daniel) Jefson, of Westby, WI; aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and numerous friends. Tom has touched many people's lives and will be greatly missed. A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Wednesday, May 24, 2006 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Marys Catholic Church in Viroqua. Father Robert Cook will celebrate the Mass. Friends may call on Tuesday from 2 to 7 p.m. at the Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home, 123 W. Decker (Hwy 56) in Viroqua. Friends may also call on Wednesday from 9:15 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. at the Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers or plants, memorials are preferred. The Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home of Viroqua is serving the family.
