Tommy Gary Proffitt took his final breath surrounded by his children, and their spouses; his grandchildren; Salsa the Boxer; and Karen Batteen in his home on August 8th, 2023, in the early evening.
Tommy was born, in the back seat of a ’49 Olds, on the way to Poplar Bluff, Missouri, to Evelyn and Alvin Proffitt, Sr. He was one of six children. He grew up and attended school in Summersville, Missouri, graduating high school in 1967.
He married Linda M. Gimpel in 1968, and they moved to Racine, Wisconsin where he started working for S.C. Johnson Wax. He was drafted and served two years in the U.S. Army and did a tour in Korea during the Vietnam War. After his time with the Army, they would return to Racine and start a family. They moved twice, first to Paddock Lake, Wisconsin in 1981, and then to Ferryville, Wisconsin in 2005, after retiring.
Tom enjoyed the outdoors and liked going fishing, hunting, camping, snowmobiling, boating, and cruising around on his trike. He loved to play games like Euchre, Spades and Sheepshead. He was passionate about Monopoly. Tom loved to tell jokes. He also really enjoyed taking road trips with his wife and a good road atlas. He loved to be surrounded by friends and family. Tom was married almost 50 years. His two grandchildren were the joy of his life.
He was preceded in death by his mother; father; oldest sister, Jeanie (Gordon); youngest brother, Dennis; and his wife Linda.
He is survived by his siblings Kay (Ross), Alvin, and Ray; his children Kimberly (and Tim Mitchell) and Ken (and Gretel); as well as his grandchildren, Alexander and Kesley Mitchell; and six nieces and nephews. He left his cats Fluffy and Baby K.
