Troy James Mellem, a loving father, brother, and son, passed away peacefully on April 29, 2023, in Wisconsin. Born on September 11, 1967, in Prairie du Chien, Troy was known for his funny, adventurous, and loving spirit that left a lasting impact on everyone he met.


Troy was the cherished son of Richard Mellem Jr. and Gloria Horkheimer, and a beloved brother to Trisha Mellem, Jason and Heidi Mellem (Schaller), Clayton and Lisa Mellem (Schliecher), and Kenny and Jonna Mellem (Sherlock), who all held a special place in his heart. He was also a father to Ryan Dombrowski, Hunter Dykes, Kristin Lambert, Kole George, and uncle to many nieces and nephews.


Growing up in Prairie du Chien, Troy attended Prairie du Chien High School, where he formed lifelong friendships and discovered his passion for welding and construction. He was known for his hard work, dedication, and attention to detail.


Troy's love for the outdoors was evident in his favorite pastimes, which included hunting, fishing, and riding his Harley. He cherished the time spent with family and friends on countless adventures, creating memories that will be treasured forever. Troy's adventurous crazy spirit and love for life were contagious, inspiring those around him to live life to the fullest.


In addition to his love for the outdoors, Troy was known for his incredible sense of humor. He had a unique ability to make everyone around him laugh, often using his wit and charm to lighten the mood in any situation. Troy's laughter and love for life will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.


Throughout his life, Troy was a loving and supportive presence in his family's lives. He was a proud father. His love for his family was immeasurable, and the bond they shared will be cherished forever.


Troy's legacy will live on through the countless lives he touched with his humor, adventurous spirit, and love. His family and friends will continue to honor his memory by living life to the fullest and cherishing the time spent with loved ones.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, May 8, 2023, at Vosseteig Larson Funeral Home in Viroqua. Pastor Bob Streeter will officiate. A visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service. Troy will be laid to rest at Walnut Mound Cemetery in Retreat.
