Verna Jacobson

Verna Jacobson, 86, died on Tuesday, April 12, 2016. Verna Jacobson, age 86, of Viroqua died Tuesday April 11th at Sannes Nursing Home in Soldiers Grove. She was born June 19, 1929 to Ragnhild (Bergum) and Tollack G. Mageland. Verna graduated from Viroqua High School and worked at the First National Bank before marrying Leonard "Pete" Jacobson. They were married for 52 years at the time Pete passed away in 2001. Verna was a retired dairy farm wife and full time mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose hobbies included photography, art and music. She especially enjoyed the times she sang at events with Pete who was an accordion player. She is survived by a daughter Vicki (Milo) Kilen of Sauk Prairie; two sons, Chris (Kim) Jacobson of Lebanon, Ohio and Martin (Michelle) Jacobson of Otsego, Minnesota; a grandson, Nathan (Stephanie) Kilen of Milwaukee; three granddaughters, Rebecca Kilen of Onalaska; Lauren (Ryan) Sparks, of Grand Forks Air Force Base in North Dakota; and Danielle Jacobson of Newport, Kentucky; four great-grandchildren, Austin and Madison Glynn, and Dominic and Cameron Berling; two sisters, Elaine Banta of Readstown and Ruth Jacobson of Colby. In addition to her husband, Pete, she was preceded in death by a son, Peter; a sister Donna Stilwell, and two brothers, Tollack R. Mageland and Merlin Mageland. A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, April 21, 2016 at 11 a.m. at Peace Lutheran Church in Readstown with Rev. David Guetzke officiating. Visitation will be held at the church one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Sannes Nursing Home in Soldiers Grove; Maplewood Terrace Assisted Living in Viroqua; Peace Lutheran Church in Readstown, or Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Viroqua.
