Verna L. Olson, age 79 of Viroqua, died Friday, January 8, 2010. Verna L. Olson, 79, of Viroqua died Friday evening, January 8, 2010 at Norseland Nursing Home in Westby, where she had been a resident since early December. She was born in Viroqua on January 15, 1930 to Robert and Clara (Anderson) Swenson. She attended a Viroqua area country school then married Hilmer Olson on February 11, 1950. She worked at the Viroqua Leaf and Tobacco Company, was a housekeeper for local businesses, then in 2005 retired from the Viroqua Area School System where she worked in the cafeteria for many years. She was an avid card player and also a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. Verna is survived by children Cindi (Steve) Bachman, of West Salem,Vicki (Kevin) Haakenson of Viroqua, Jonathan (Tanya) Olson of Viroqua; grandchildren: Jesse Spears (Megan Hooker), Cody Spears, Bridget Stuber (Clint Summerfield), Tiffany Haakenson (Chad Lentz); step-grandson Steven Bachman; great grandchildren Riley Stuber and Colin Summerfield; sisters Mildred White, Alice (Clayton) Reed; brother Cyrus Swenson; sisters-in-law Telona Stenslien, Shirley Swenson; brother-in-law Donnie Olson; and her dog Pepe. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband Hilmer Olson; brothers Otis and Victor Swenson; and sisters Alvina Struxness, Ruth Watters, and Doris Seidel. Blessed be her memory. Funeral services will he held Wednesday, January 13, 2010 at 11 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Viroqua. Pastor Kathy Ingbritsen will officiate with burial to follow in Bethel Cemetery. Friends may call on Tuesday, January 12, 2010, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home, 123 W. Decker (Hwy 56), Viroqua or at the church from 10a.m. until the time of the service.
