Verna M. Bekkedahl, age 93 of Westby, died Friday morning, January 19, 2007 Verna M. Bekkedahl, age 93 of Westby, died Friday morning, January 19, 2007 at the Norseland Nursing Home in Westby. Verna was born January 16, 1914 in Vernon County to Edwin and Emma (Dahl) Jothen. She was baptized in the Coon Valley Lutheran Church and confirmed in Norwegian at North Coon Prairie Lutheran Church. On December 5, 1936 she was united in marriage to Helmer Bekkedahl. In addition to being a farm wife, Verna worked as a nursing assistant at what is now Vernon Manor in Viroqua for more than 20 years. She also worked for about one year at Norseland Nursing Home when it first opened and took care of her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and other children as well. Verna is survived by one daughter, Nancy Lovstad of Westby; three grandchildren: Kari (Bruce) Bye of Westby, Eric (Janet) Lovstad of Coon Valley, and Lars Lovstad of LaCrosse; four great-grandchildren: Cassie (Brandon) Birt, Erika Bye (David Schultz), Madilyn Lovstad, and Evelyn Lovstad; and two great-great grandchildren: Isiah and Brooklynn Birt. She is further survived by many special cousins, nieces, and nephews; her sister-in-law, Lorraine Schroeder of Viroqua; brothers-in-law, Eugene "Bud" (Francis) Bekkedal of Viroqua and Clifton Bekkedal of Chicago. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Helmer on July 2, 1978, and son-in-law, Ralph Lovstad on November 14, 2002. Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 22, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at Skogdahlen Lutheran Church in Timber Coulee. Pastor Gary Daines will officiate with burial in the church cemetery. Friends may call on Sunday afternoon from 3 5 p.m. at the Vosseteig Funeral Home, 708 S Hwy 14, Westby. Friends may also call at the church on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. The Vosseteig Funeral Home of Westby is serving the family.
