WEST LIMA / Viola Vesta Jean Hornby, age 90 of West Lima, died Saturday September 2, 2017 at Vernon Manor in Viroqua. Vesta Jean Hornby, age 90 of West Lima and the Viola area, passed away at Vernon Manor in Viroqua, and was welcomed to her home in heaven on Saturday September 2, 2017. Vesta was born on January 26, 1927 to Fred and Mabel (Myers) Hilleshiem in Bloom Township at the family homestead in rural Richland Co. She graduated from West Lima High School in the Class of 1945. On August 30, 1947, Vesta married Vaughn Hornby at the West Lima United Brethren Church. Together they raised their family and farmed in the Viola area for more than 50 years. She loved flowers and her gardening. Vesta was a giving person sharing not only her gardens but also her home on weekends, as they shared meals with friends or family. Vestas greatest joy was serving the Lord and her family. She loved both greatly. Vesta loved to sing in the church choir. She taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. Vesta and Vaughn were leaders of the church youth group sharing bible studies, the outdoors and even skating trips. She was always willing to help at church in any other function as well. Vesta also enjoyed the time she spent with the ladies of the Christian Womens Club in Richland Center. Family and friends were blessed by her gentle kindness. She was greatly loved, and she will be greatly missed. Today, Vesta is survived by: her husband Vaughn; their children LaMon (Karen) Hornby of Richland Center; Marlyn (Deb) Hornby of Readstown; Malene (Michael) Kargl of Berlin; Rahn (Sandee) Hornby of Arcadia and eleven grandchildren, Shelly (Dominic) Anderson, Joel (Tammy) Hornby, Darren Hornby, Jena (Adam) Burns, Jennifer (Nick) Rogstad, Jerod (Kassy) Hornby, JoEllen (Harry) Young, Erica (Ben) Gores, Heather (Brad) Kurczek, Heidi (Josh) White, and Angela (Jingen) Yu. Also surviving are 19 great-grandchildren, sisters-in-law Avis Hilleshiem of Richland Center and Iva Hoyum of Rockford,IL and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by: her parents, her brothers Julius and Delmer, an infant brother Eldon and her in-laws; Alvin and Rena (Fish) Hornby, Orvis (Delores) Hornby, Edwyn Hoyum and Ruby Hilleshiem. Funeral Services for Vesta will be Thursday September 7, 2017 at the Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home, 123 W. Decker St., Hwy 56, in Viroqua, at 11:00A.M. The Reverend Dr. Steve Fossum of Viroqua and Pastor Dennis Jones of the Beulah Wesleyan Church in Gillingham will co-officiate. Friends may call during a visitation on Wednesday September 6, 2017 at the funeral home from 4:00 to 6:00 P.M., also one hour before the service on Thursday. Burial will follow the service at the Viola Cemetery. In lieu of flowers or plants memorials may be directed to the Kickapoo Rescue Squad in Vestas name.
