Violetta Flugstad , age 92 of Westby died Monday, June 4, 2007. Violetta Flugstad , age 92 of Westby died Monday, June 4, 2007 at Norseland Nursing Home after suffering a stroke. She was born October 2, 1914 in Otter Creek Township in Highland to Andrew and Minnie (Olson) Stenerson. She attended the Union Valley Grade School, two years at Dodgeville High School and graduated from Viroqua High School in 1931. She graduated from Vernon County Normal School in 1932 and then taught four years in the Clausen School. She married Kermit Flugstad in 1936 and settled in Westby. After her husband died in 1963 she was in partnership with a brother-in-law in the Flugstad and Foss Hardware Company until it was sold in 1975 to Dregnes for whom she worked until she retired. She was a member of Coon Prairie Lutheran Church. At one time she was president of the ladies aid, belonged to the Lydia Circle, taught Sunday School and sang in the choir. She was a long time member of the Sons of Norway, Solvang Lodge and sang with the Solvang Singers.She is survived by her son, Robert (Sandy Smith) Flugstad of Westby, and a daughter, Gloria (Dennis) Jacobson of Ridgeland. She has five grandchildren: Angela (Tony) Nemes of Westby; Paul (Alice) Jacobson of Almena; Amy Jacobson of Ferrryville; Bjorn (Jennifer) Flugstad of Racine; Erik Flugstad of Florida. Four great-grandchildren: Keaton, Anika, Elaina Nemes, and Ethan Jacobson. One brother, Ivan (Maxine) Stenerson of California; one sister-in-law, Naomi (Owen) Bekkum of Madison; nieces and nephews.Preceeding her in death were her husband, parents, brothers: LeRoy and Wilson, and a sister Ivanelle, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Elizabeth Stenerson, Hubert and Emily Flugstad, Burton and Thelma Flugstad, Ed and Alva Foss and a nephew, Trygve Flugstad.Her interest included music, sewing, gardening, traveling and genealogy. She also liked to keep track of the Westby Norsemen and the Green Bay Packers.Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 8, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at the Westby Coon Prairie Lutheran Church in Westby, WI. Pastor Dennis Hallemeier will officiate with burial in Coon Prairie Cemetery. Friends may call at the church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m.In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Westby Coon Prairie Lutheran Church, Old Times or Norseland Nursing Home.
