Virgil Knutson, 92, of La Farge, died Saturday, May 7, 2016. Virgil R. Knutson passed away on May 7, 2016 at the Bethel Home in Viroqua, Wisconsin. Virgil was born to Elmer and Caroline (Hatlan) Knutson on August 22, 1923. During WWII, he served in Europe with the 7th Armored Division in 1944-45. Because of his service, he was able to go to Washington D.C. on the Freedom Honor Flight in September of 2013, accompanied by his son, Cecil, as his Honorary Guardian. Virgil worked many years on the Ekern Mink Ranch and was a self-employed carpenter until his retirement. He is survived by two sons: Cecil (Pat) Rolfe and Gary (Pat) Knutson; seven grandchildren: Sarah (Ed) Tunks, Beth (Chris) Larson, Colleen Knutson, Casey Knutson, Seth Knutson, Scott Knutson, and Jason Knutson; thirteen great grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; a special friend, Thelma (nee Rolfe) Connelly and her family; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Ronnie Knutson; brothers: Earl Knutson and Art Hogan; and sisters: Marie Peterson, Helen Appleman and Velma Parr. Blessed be the memory of Virgil R. Knutson. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Bethel Foundation or a charity of choice are preferred. Funeral Services will held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 11, 2016 at the La Farge Free Methodist Church. Pastor Mark Phillips will officiate with burial to follow in the Bear Creek Cemetery. Friends may call at the church from 9 a.m. till the time of service at 11.
