Virgil M. Stalsberg

May 8, 1947 — August 29, 2024

Westby - Virgil M. Stalsberg, a man whose loving, kind, and generous spirit touched the lives of many, passed away peacefully at home on August 29, 2024. Born to Victor and Myrtle (Erickson) Stalsberg on May 8, 1947, in La Crosse, Virgil's journey through life was marked by his unwavering dedication to his family, his passion for the great outdoors, and his commitment to the community he held dear.

Virgil attended Gilbertson Country School and was a proud graduate of Westby High School, class of 1965. His work ethic and amiable nature were evident throughout his career, which included valued positions at the Westby Creamery and Tri-State Breeders. Even after his retirement, Virgil continued to contribute his skills and knowledge to NuZum's, where his presence was always a source of joy and camaraderie.

Virgil's life was a testament to the simple pleasures that bring richness to our days. He found solace and excitement in the beauty of nature, whether he was helping on his brother's farm, waiting patiently in a hunting blind, casting a line into a tranquil lake, or exploring the woods. His love for hunting and fishing was matched only by his enthusiasm for antiquing and rummage sales, pursuits that often turned into treasured adventures with family and friends.

Those who knew Virgil will remember him as a man who lived his values. His loving nature was the cornerstone of his 34-year marriage to his beloved wife, Brenda, a bond that was a beacon of devotion and mutual respect. Virgil and Brenda were married on September 8, 1990, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Virgil's siblings, Donald (Bernice) Stalsberg, Delores (Mike) Eastvold, and Judy (Randy) Schaub, will cherish memories of a brother who was always there to lend a hand or share a laugh. He was the best brother anyone could ask for. His sister-in-law, Arlinda (James) Noben, and brother-in-law, Arnie "Duke" Richmond, along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives, will miss his generous spirit and the warmth of his presence.

Virgil's legacy is also shaped by the friendships he cultivated throughout his life. His ability to connect with others, to share in their joys and sorrows, made him a cherished member of his community. Friends who stood by him during life's highs and lows will now carry forward the light of his memory.

Though he was preceded in death by his parents and several aunts and uncles, Virgil's influence remains a guiding force for all who were fortunate enough to know him. His passing leaves a void that will be felt deeply, yet the love and kindness he shared will continue to inspire and comfort those he left behind.

As we bid farewell to Virgil M. Stalsberg, we celebrate a life well-lived, a journey marked by genuine connections, heartfelt generosity, and an enduring love for the world around him. His story does not end with his passing but lives on in the hearts of those he touched. We honor his memory by embracing the values he embodied and by finding joy in the simple, beautiful moments that life offers us each day.
