Virgil T. Gilbeck, age 82 of Cashton, died Thursday, December 20, 2012 Virgil T. Gilbeck, age 82 of Cashton, died Thursday, December 20, 2012 at Norseland Nursing Home after a short stay. He was born on April 7, 1930 to Alfred and Anna (Hanson) Gilbeck. He served in the U.S. Army as a sergeant and spent 90 days on the front line participating in the battle of Heartbreak Ridge. On July 11, 1959 he was united in marriage to Beverly Komperud. He was a farmer and was proud of his Holstein cows. Virgil was a lifelong member of Skogdalen Lutheran Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and trapping. In addition to his wife, Beverly, he is survived by four children: Gregory Gilbeck of Viroqua, Anna (Marc) Moilien of Westby, Bruce (Darlene) Gilbeck of St. Charles, MN, and Scott (Kayla) Gilbeck of Spring Green; seven grandchildren: Joseph (Brianna) Iverson, Andrew Iverson, Seonah Iverson, Tyler and Karlie Gilbeck, Brandon and Ashley Gilbeck. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers and two sisters. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 22, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Skogdalen Lutheran Church in Timber Coulee. Pastor Steven Minnema will officiate . Burial with military rites will be in the Skogdalen Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Saturday after 12:00 noon. The Vosseteig Funeral Home of Westby is serving the family.
