Virginia H. Thoftne, age 94, of Soldiers Grove, died Sunday, June 30, 2019. Virginia H Thoftne, age 94, of Soldiers Grove passed away on Sunday, June 30th, 2019 at Soldiers Grove Health Center. She was born on October 8th, 1924 in Crawford County to Fred and Bernice (Alexander) Haffa. Virginia was a baptized and confirmed member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church and was a member of the WELCA. She attended Soldiers Grove High School and became a Certified Nursing Assistant in later years. She married Andrew (Andy) Thoftne on October 10, 1941 at the Little Brown Church in Iowa. Andy was the love of her life and making their home and raising their children was her greatest joy. Virginia 'Ginger' was a wonderful homemaker and cook who always enjoyed sharing food with others. They lived all of their life in Soldiers Grove where Virginia worked at the Sannes Skogdalen Nursing Home. This job was where she met many friends and enjoyed spending time with these friends in her retirement. She is survived by two sons: Ed (Karen) and John (Renae) of Soldiers Grove; one daughter, Jeanie (Terry) Rice of Kingston, Tennessee; six grandchildren: Tory Thoftne of Lodi, Julie (Tom) Owens of Plain, Joey and Chad Thoftne of Mesa, AZ, and Andy Hirschfield of Janesville, Michelle (Chad) Meeker, Lone Rock; eight great-grandchildren: Amy Thoftne and Alice (Shawn) Reinen, Aaron and Erika Andrews, Tavin Thoftne, and Andrew Grisham, Kacey Layton and Kolton McCorkle; one Great-great grandson Alexander Reinen. Other survivors include several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Andrew, her parents; granddaughter Christine, granddaughter in law Carla; and a sister Lola Jean West. Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 5th at 1 p.m. at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, 303 Church St. in Soldiers Grove. The Rev. Carrie Anderson will officiate and a private burial will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery in Soldiers Grove at a later date. Friends may call prior to the service from 11:00 a.m. till the time of services at the church. Vosseteig Funeral Home of Gays Mills is handling the arrangements. The family would like to thank all the friends and relatives who visited their 'Mom' at the Soldiers Grove Health Services as well as the kindness of the staff at this Nursing Home where Ginger lived. Also, thank you to Vernon Memorial Hospice Services for their care and guidance. In lieu of flowers please consider donations to Our Saviors Lutheran Church, Soldiers Grove.
