Virginia Sanford, 96, of Viola, died Sunday, May 10, 2015. Virginia Mary Sanford, age 96, died peacefully surrounded by family at the Bland Bekkedal Center for Hospice Care in Viroqua, WI on May 10, 2015. She was born November 10th, 1918 in West Lima, WI to Hattie (Hurless) and Clarence Ewing. Virginia graduated from La Farge Public School in 1936. She later attended Platteville College and Vernon County Normal School. She taught for four years in a one room rural school. Virginia was a member of the Viola Eastern Star and served one year as a state page at the annual Eastern Star Conference. She married Charles J. Sanford on January 3, 1941 and they spent their married life in Viola. She is survived by her children: James (Mauretta) Sanford, Alan (Carol) Sanford, Richard (Vickie) Sanford, and Barbara (Gerald) Glass; ten grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; one special cousin and friend, Darlene Blakely; one sister, Gloria Sandmire; two special friends, Stephanie Fedor-Joseph and Hannah Joseph; and many nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charles; her brother, Merlin (Vivian) Ewing; her sister, Erma (Chad) Sullivan; one great grandchild, Gavin James Dums; and sister-in-law and good friend, Geneva Sanford Barclay. Funeral Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, May 15, 2015 at the La Farge Free Methodist Church. Pastor Mark Phillips will officiate with burial to follow in the Viola Cemetery.
