Walter M. Lien, age 79 of Elmwood Park, Ill, died Wednesday, May 16, 2007 Walter M. Lien, age 79 of Elmwood Park, Ill, died Wednesday, May 16, 2007 at the Veterans Hospital in Hines, ILL. He was born on August 24, 1927 in LaCrosse, Wisconsin to Melvin and Cora (Lunde) Lien who were the first couple to be married at the Country Coon Prairie Lutheran Church, rural Westby. He graduated from Seas Branch rural school (a one room schoolhouse) and Westby High School. He then went on to the University of Wisconsin. He was united in marriage to Marion Kaiser Walter was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Army and had been the vice commander of the V.F.W. West End Post in Illinois. He was also a member of St. Pascals Mens Club. In addition to his wife, Marion, he is survived by his three children: Carolyn, Kari (George) Radomski and Phillip; grandchildren: Donita, Andrew, Patricia, Samantha, Jillian and Colin; great-grandchild, Cassidy; sisters: Ada (Schrawty), Helen (Tiliman) and Dagney (Jarman). He was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Cora Lien. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, July 1, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. at Country Coon Prairie Lutheran Church with Pastor Dennis Hallemeier officiating. Burial, with military rites will be in the Coon Prairie Cemetery. Friends may greet the family on Sunday from 12:30 until the time of service at the church. The Vosseteig Funeral Home of Westby is serving the family.
