Wayne North

September 7, 1934 — September 10, 2023

Wayne North, age 89, of Sussex, formerly of La Farge, passed away on Sunday, September 10, 2023. He was born September 7, 1934, in Clyde, Wisconsin to his parents, Corda and Faye North.

Wayne’s family moved from Clyde to the Kickapoo Valley in the mid-thirties. While attending Bear Creek School, Wayne met the love of his life, Belinda Lou Winchel. His family moved to various farms throughout the Kickapoo Valley in his younger years.

At a young age, Wayne was interested in boats and built a small boat while living at a farm just outside of La Farge. This love for boats and the water inspired Wayne to join the U.S. Navy to serve during the Korean War Conflict at 16 years old. While on leave from the U.S. Navy, Wayne returned home long enough to marry the love of his life, Belinda Lou, and together they had two sons, Randy and Edwin.

After serving in the U.S. Navy, Wayne started a career at Continental Can Company in Milwaukee as a steel worker. He worked at Continental Can for 42 years before retiring.

Wayne found Christ and served the Lord by becoming an elder with the Church of Christ. He was constantly helping others in need both in the Church and in his private life. When Wayne wasn’t helping others, he enjoyed nature and the outdoors. Wayne was always working outside at his home in Sussex, Wisconsin or at Chadwick Hollow in the Kickapoo Valley. He was the epitome of you can take the boy out of the Kickapoo, but you can’t take the Kickapoo out of the boy.

When Wayne’s gate was open at Chadwick Hollow, it was an invitation to anyone that wanted to come up visit have coffee or eat. A good game of euchre was always welcome. Wayne also loved time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren on camping trips or just playing in the yard.

Wayne is survived by his wife of 70 years, Belinda; his son, Edwin (Suzanne) North; grandchildren: Eric North, Lori North (Brian Bigley), and Scott Patnode (Mayya Pechenova); and great-grandchildren: Ava Billodeau, Logan Billodeau, Odin Billodeau, Lincoln North, Brighten Bigley, and Rylen Bigley.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Randy; his four brothers, Orvis, Lewis, Carl, and Ronaldo “Gene”; and his sister, Doris.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 14, 2023, at Vosseteig Funeral Home in La Farge. Bonita Dorschied will officiate. A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Wayne will be laid to rest at Bear Creek Cemetery with full military honors. A luncheon will be held after the burial at the La Farge Community Building across the street from the funeral home.
