Wayne O. Aspenson, age 81 of Westby, died Wednesday, February 3, 2010 Wayne O. Aspenson, age 81 of Westby, died Wednesday, February 3, 2010 at the Vernon Manor in Viroqua. He was born on February 4, 1928 in Utica township, Crawford, Co., Wisconsin to Andrew and Icaphena (Olson) Aspenson. He attended Viroqua High School and was drafted into the U.S. Army. He served during the restoration process following WWII and also during the Korean War. On May 12, 1956 he was united in marriage to Harriet Call at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Viroqua. They started their married life in LaCrosse and Onalaska and moved to Westby in 1969. Wayne was a custodian for Westby Area Schools until his retirement. He is survived by his four children: Lori Erickson of Westby, Linda (Jeff) Bergstrom of Cumberland, Jon (Marla) Aspenson of Grafton and Beth (Mike) Brendel of Viroqua; 12 grandchildren: Nicole Grant, Emily Erickson, Hannah and Beau Bergstrom, Ella, Grace Alec and Claire Aspenson, and Jennifer, Lauren, Erika and Megan Brendel; one great-granddaughter, Arissa Grant and one great-grandson, Braedyn Grant; one sister, Evalyn Sherry; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Harriet on July 20, 2008; seven brothers: Earl, Everett, Amos, Vincent, Norval, Gerald, and LeRoy; two sisters: Mildred Raaum and Alvera Aspenson; and his son-in-law, Tim Erickson. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, February 7, 2010 at 1:30 p.m. at Westby Coon Prairie Lutheran Church. Pastor Julie Wollman will officiate. Burial with military rites will be in the Coon Prairie Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Sunday after 12:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers or plants, memorials are preferred to the Vernon Manor or the Westby Coon Prairie Lutheran Church. The family would like to extend their thanks to the staff of Vernon Manor for the excellent care Wayne received. The Vosseteig Funeral Home of Westby is serving the family.
