He graduated from Viroqua High School on June 2, 1966. He was drafted into the United States Army where he served our Nation from 1968-1970. While in the service he suffered a back injury and had back surgery at Walter Reed Hospital in Washington DC. He was the bar manager at the Viroqua Eagles Club from 1971-1979. Bill was a self-employed sign painter and his signs can be seen throughout the community. He enjoyed gardening and shared his joy of gardening with his neighbors. Bill was a best friend to so many children over his lifetime. Children of relatives and friends alike could always go in to "Uncle Bills" garage and find something fun like bubbles, magic tricks, or coloring books he kept in the chest of drawers just for them! And we all enjoyed watching him perform his "magic tricks"!! He was a member of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Viroqua where he served on a variety of Committees, was a member of the Church Council in the past and was also a Head Usher. He assisted with the Community Thanksgiving Dinner for several years and served as the church coordinator in 2013. He also served as President in the years 2014-2015 and 2015-2016. Over the years he served on numerous committees and was instrumental in organizing events such as bus trips to Brewers games, helping set up the Eagles Family Picnic and the annual Car Show. He chaired the Eagles Golf Tournaments for 17 years, which is a fundraiser held for local charities. His crowning achievement was spearheading the aeries involvement in the Annual Cancer Telethon, which he chaired for 30 years and saw community response with contributions of over million dollars raised for cancer research. He was very proud to be associated with the Eagles organization and he truly exemplified the Eagle slogan of "People Helping People". Bill was inducted into the Eagles State Hall of Fame on September 14, 2013 and was named Eagle Brother of the Year for 2017-2018. He loved both his Church "family" and his Eagle "family".
