William "Bill" Kappler

Bill Kappler, age 80, of La Farge and formerly of Readstown passed away on Monday, November 21, 2022. He was born on November 27, 1941.

He is survived by life-partner Lisa Ashley; son, Ben Ashley Kappler of LaFarge, 20 yrs. old; stepdaughter, Kathryn (Keith) Ashley Wright 38 yrs. of LaFarge and their four children; daughter, Katie (Jon) Kassel (Kappler) 53 yrs. and granddaughters, Sasha and Sophie; son, Chris (Sarah) Kappler of West Palm Beach 55 yrs.; and brother, Jack Kappler of Viroqua.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, John and Eleanor (Lee) Kappler of Elgin, IL.

Bill was best known locally from Read’s Creek Nursery, which he owned and operated for 22 years, from 1992 to 2014. The last eight years have been spent in rural La Farge where he continued as Old Stone Landscaping, most recently being joined by his son Ben.

Bill’s prior years were spent developing machinery specific to unloading agricultural materials and this led to him traveling the globe doing what he loved most – meeting people, eating good food, and selling.

Bill had an ever-optimistic attitude, and we will remember that always. If you ever met Bill you know he was hungry for details about where you were from, and your past, present and future in as much as you were willing to share. Never with any maliciousness, he sincerely loved seeing connections amongst all the people in his orbit.

Regardless of how small and infrequent one’s relationship was with Bill, know that he considered that a friendship. And we welcome all friends of Bill Kappler to join us Sunday, December 4, 2022, from 1-4 p.m. at the VFW in Viroqua for a remembrance of his life.
