William "Bill" Koenen, age 71 of Viroqua, died Saturday, April 4, 2009. William M. "Bill" Koenen, age 71 of Viroqua, died Saturday, April 4, 2009 at the Vernon Manor Nursing Home in Viroqua. He was born on November 10, 1937 in Viroqua to Frank and Hazel (Jackson) Koenen. Bill served in the National Guard. He was married to Shirley Uren and she preceded him in death. On April 27, 1973 was united in marriage to Karlyn Ludwig. He was a machinist at Fairbanks Morse for many years and had been a partner in an auto parts business in Viroqua. Bill was a member of the VFW and Eagles, and was a sportsman who loved to hunt and fish. He also enjoyed gardening. In addition to his wife Karlyn, Bill is survived by three sons: Craig (Susie) Koenen and their children: Alan and Matthew, Kyle (Deanna) Koenen and their children: Christopher, Alyssa and Hannah, and Kurt Koenen (special friend Barb) and son, Brendon; one brother, David Koenen; three brothers-in-law: Ronald (Rosemary) Ludwig, Wayne Ludwig and Richard Ludwig (special friend Jane); and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by one sister Judy (Koenen) Matson; brother-in-law, James Matson; mother, Hazel (Jackson) Koenen, mother and father-in-law, John and Emma (Schmid) Ludwig; sister-in-law, Kay (Mickelson) Ludwig; nephew, Michael Ludwig; his first wife, Shirley (Uren) Koenen and his father, Frank Koenen. Services will be held on Thursday, April 9, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. with The Rev. Dr. Steven Fossum officiating at the Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home, 123 W. Decker (Hwy 56) in Viroqua. Friends may call on Wednesday from 4 to 6 p.m. The Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home of Viroqua is serving the family.
