Wilma Ellenore Dampier, 92 of La Farge, WI, ended her journey with Alzheimer’s on Wednesday May 18, 2022, as a resident of Lakeview Assisted Living in West Salem. WI. She was born June 15, 1929, to Olaf and Amanda (Crye) Dalberg in Blue River, Wisconsin. Her family later moved to farmland near Viola. Wilma, with her two older brothers (Clyde and Byron) attended Bear Creek South. Wilma graduated from West Lima School in 1948. She continued onto Nursing School at the Hillsboro Hospital. She met and married, Dean Borrison, of La Farge. Together they had four children; two boys, and 10 years later two girls. The boys were coddling big brothers and were much help to their mom. In the early 70’s, both graduated from La Farge High School and moved south to start jobs and begin their own families. Wilma and Dean divorced soon after. Wilma found work in town to stay afloat. As a single mother, she did cleaning and cooking jobs in the area including La Farge School- Janitor and Cafeteria; the Town Tap and the Matador Restaurant. She also worked hard in the tobacco fields through many seasons for a few area farmers. Within a few years, she was set up on a blind date with Jim Dampier. He adored her small town social enthusiasm and along with another couple they enjoyed many motorcycle trips Georgia and Alabama. The two found they had many other common friends between La Farge and Janesville. Wilma married Jim on December 30, 1975, in Walworth County. Soon after, Wilma and the girls moved to Janesville. Once Jim retired from General Motors, they returned to La Farge to enjoy retirement. Both were loving grandparents to their combined, extended grandkids as they stretched across many miles and a couple generations. Once living back in La Farge, Wilma and Jim were never apart. Together, they jumped feet first into community services and clubs. Both worked for the Retired Senior Volunteer Program (Mom worked at the meal site and was the Vernon County Coordinator while Jim was the Programs Bus Driver), Local Ladies Auxiliary -VFW , Ambulance Squad and the Fire Department for many years. While Jim was involved in the Rod and Gun Clubs, Wilma was involved in Pool and Bowling League. With Wilma’s gift to cook, she also catered for many community parties and local weddings. She loved her weekend cooking job at the Rockton Bar. She will be remembered as the red head in the kitchen or ‘Willy’ to most of the staff. Deer hunting seasons were always a houseful with family and friends. There was always an empty spot to sleep on Wilma’s floor for a hunter. They both loved the activity in the house those years most of all! Illness later hit Jim and he was the was the first to search for an alternative home away from the burden of yardwork and stairs. They moved down off the hill, just a few blocks away and Wilma began creating their little red castle. Wilma lost Jim in 2010. She was extremely proud of him and very heartbroken. She continued to cook the fish at Rockton for a bit and cook for local ceremonies. Wilma was her son Larry’s biggest fan during his many years struggled with his Cancers. She tried hard to up hold her Grandma status and maintained vibrant as the last living Aunt Wilma to many nieces, nephews and friends. In 2017, Wilma lost her son Wayne, many of us saw that weight on her as she continued to push on. She continued to live independently in her little red castle until just a few years ago, due to her approaching Illness. The endless love and compassion she received from her neighbors and friends to protect her independence was astounding. The old saying: It takes a village to raise a mom, comes to mind. Wilma lost her son, Larry, in December of this year. Soon after, she moved from Bethel Memory Care to Lakeview Assisted Living as her illness became more intense. She was very happy and content with her accommodations up to her last days. Wilma was preceded in death by her parents, Olaf and Amanda Dalberg; her husband, Jim; her sons, Larry Borrison and Wayne Borrison; her siblings; Clyde Dalberg, Byron Dalberg, and infant sister Elizabeth; Sisters in-law; and Nieces and Nephews. Survivors include her Daughters, Linda (Mitch) Kellner of Pecotonica, Ill, and Shawn (Bob) Whaley of Tomah WI; her Grandchildren: Deann (Al) Day, Jason Borrison, Joe Bosselman, Keisha Martin, Heather (Todd) Teed, Amy Green, Misty Borrison, Amber Kellner (Fiance’ Doug), Kyle (Ally) Whaley, Jarod Whaley; and many step and great-grandchildren.
