Winifred Jane Leavitt, age 93 of Viroqua, died Saturday, February 10, 2007 Winifred Jane Leavitt, age 93 of Viroqua, died Saturday, February 10, 2007 at the Vernon Manor Nursing Home in Viroqua. Winifred was born August 4, 1913 to George and Rhoda (Daugherty) Buckmaster in Boscobel, WI. Following graduation from Boscobel High School she found work in Madison at the Capitol and other state offices. She took night secretarial classes over the next several years. She was transferred to other state offices in Milwaukee and Chicago. The big city beckoned so she moved to Los Angeles. There she worked as a legal secretary to lawyers in large corporations. She retired from California Portland Cement Company. She met Alward W. Leavitt and they were married February 14, 1953. He preceded her in death December 4, 1975. She was also preceded in death by her parents, brothers: Gilbert, John and Ernest Buckmaster, and her sister-in-law, Rose Buckmaster. Winifred is survived by her nephew, LaVonne "Bucky" Buckmaster and his wife, Donna; their children and grandchildren: Jeff (Cherie) and Hannah; Brian (Rhonda), Taylor and Adam Buckmaster; Dawn (Mike) and Jacob Olson; and her niece, Jolene (Dale) Gudgeon. In respect to Winifreds wishes there will be no public funeral. Burial will be at a later date in California. The Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home of Viroqua is serving the family.
