Green Funerals

(Or "Shades of Green" Funerals)

Our funeral home offers a range of green funeral services that includes practices, services, and merchandise that take into additional consideration the effects on our environment. There are many “shades of green,” and we will explore with you what best meets your needs and desires. Our funeral home utilizes reduce, reuse, recycle practices when practicable, whether or not you choose our green service offerings.

In addition to many other green practices, we offer a package that includes preparation of the body with an alternative process that is non-toxic and organic. This process does not include the use of “dry ice,” which emits carbon dioxide. A casket made of sea-grass/wicker with a natural fiber interior is included as well as recycled printed material and the use of vegetable-based ink.

To reduce the use of paper, we request that correspondence between the family and funeral home primarily be in the form of e-mail, and we will utilize electronic correspondence with local media. Rather than printing the online condolences for the family, we request a single e-mail address to which we may forward any online condolences. We ask that payment be in the form of a single payment and will provide a written receipt upon request.

The use of a concrete grave liner is a cemetery requirement, and upon request, we will provide you with written information regarding the manufacturer's position of their minimal impact on the environment.

This package includes a visitation/wake to be held one or two hours prior to the service as a way to reduce consumption of energy in the form of heat/air conditioning and electrical use. The additional benefit is reduction of fuel by those attending by combining the visitation/funeral into one trip for them.

A post funeral luncheon is available, and a local/organic menu is utilized when possible and at the request of the family. We use non-disposable table service and flatware when available.

We ask that the casket bearers ride in a single vehicle, and we use a hybrid lead vehicle for the safety of the funeral procession and the transportation of the clergy/officiant/celebrant to the place of burial.

It is our suggestion that a family consider limiting floral tributes to a single casket spray inclusive of the entire family, and following the service, a flower may be taken home as a remembrance.

We strive to take care of your needs and desires while maintaining dignity for your family and the person who has died. Our professionalism as well as personal care will be evident through every step of your journey. If we have not had the opportunity to meet before, we will be a stranger for but a moment. You will have confidence that our continued care of the deceased and the entire family will exceed your expectations.
